How to Measure Your Drawer

Get the perfect fit with accurate measurements

Why Accurate Measurements Matter

Your custom organizer is manufactured to the exact dimensions you provide. Accurate measurements ensure:

  • A perfect fit in your drawer
  • No wasted space or gaps
  • Proper functionality of dividers
  • Professional, clean appearance

âš ī¸ Important: We manufacture products based on your specifications. Drawerology is not responsible for products that do not fit due to inaccurate measurements.

What You'll Need

📏

Measuring Tool

A tape measure or ruler. For best results, we recommend using a tape measure in addition to a credit card and utilizing the "credit card trick".

📝

Something to Write With

Paper and pen to record your measurements before entering them into the designer.

đŸ”Ļ

Good Lighting

Ensure you can clearly see the measuring marks. Use a flashlight if needed.

đŸ—‘ī¸

Empty Drawer

Remove all contents from the drawer for accurate measurements.

Step-by-Step Measuring Guide

1

Measure the Width

Measure the inside width from left to right:

  • Place your tape measure from one inside wall to the opposite inside wall
  • Measure at multiple points (front, middle, back) to check for variations
  • Use the smallest measurement if there are variations
2

Measure the Length

Measure the inside length from front to back:

  • Place your tape measure from the back-most inside wall to the front-most
  • Measure at multiple points (left, center, right) to check for variations
  • Use the smallest measurement if there are variations
  • Account for any drawer slides or hardware that protrude into the drawer space
  • Check for obstructions like screw heads or mounting brackets

â„šī¸ Important: If there are obstructions (like drawer slides) that reduce usable space, subtract that from your measurement.

3

Measure the Height

Measure the inside height from bottom to top:

  • Measure from the floor of your drawer to the top of a wall

💡 Pro Tip: For best aesthetics and cost savings, make your organizer slightly shorter than the height of your drawer.

4

Double-Check Your Measurements

Before entering your measurements:

  • Measure each dimension twice to confirm accuracy
  • Write down all measurements clearly
  • Take photos of your tape measure readings for reference
  • Round down to the nearest millimeter or 1/16" if between marks

Common Measuring Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Measuring the Outside

Always measure the inside dimensions of the drawer, not the exterior dimensions.

❌ Forgetting Obstructions

Check for drawer slides, screw heads, or other hardware that reduces usable space.

❌ Assuming Symmetry

Many drawers are slightly tapered or uneven. Always use the smallest measurement.

❌ Rounding Up

When in doubt, round down slightly. A slightly smaller organizer will still fit; a larger one won't.

❌ Measuring Only Once

Always measure at least twice at different points to catch any irregularities.

Advanced Measuring Tips

Use Millimeters for Precision

Our designer offers an "Advanced Mode" that allows you to enter measurements in millimeters. This provides:

  • More precise measurements than inches with fractions
  • Better fit for tighter tolerances
  • Easier to work with for small drawers

Account for Drawer Liners

If you plan to use a drawer liner, measure with it in place. The liner thickness will reduce your usable space.
